Introduction
Can I take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to our web site.
Hopefully, we can all benefit from our association since a club is
only as strong as it's membership.
I trust that the following background information will be of some
interest; at least it forms an insight on our set up. We formed back
in 1976, but initially two years prior to that as the Bangor Tesco
S.A.C. In fact we still have a fossilised relic from that club still
in our membership today - hang on, that's me!
As time went on,
with most of the members leaving Tesco, we decided to change the name
of the club. At that time, our catchment area was Anglesey, Bangor and
Caernarfon - hence ABC. We are mainly a boating club, but have run a
shore section in the passed. Obviously we would re-establish it again
if there was sufficient interest. At present, we have a charter
section along with a small boats section. Both points lists have been
included in our starter packs. We also have a strong junior section.
One important aspect that we like to promote is conservation, wherever
possible, so our competitions are run on a points per specie basis.
This eliminates the need to stress/kill fish for weighing purposes.
Sadly, at present, to meet federation criteria for record and specimen
claims, we still have to weigh the fish ashore. If you go bait
digging, please remember to 'back fill' - don't leave the shoreline
looking like a lunar landscape. Also, when crabbing, return the rocks
and seaweed in the original position, ensuring not to trap seaweed
underneath it because this only rots and kills the surrounding marine
life. It should also go without saying that you should take away any
rubbish with you - any discarded litter and line really gives angling
a bad name. We all have a part in ensuring our sport survives. Believe
me, there are plenty of organisations and individuals out there who
would only be too pleased to take our rights away, so don't give them
the bullets to fire!
I'm glad to say we are a friendly club. Advice and assistance is
always available to anyone requesting it. Remember, we all benefit
from each others' involvement, so enjoy those benefits by being an
active member. Don't be surprised to see or hear tales of certain
members being so conservation minded that they let the fish off the
hook even before they break the surface ! ! Be warned, this is only an
introduction into the banter that flows on such occasions
Meetings are very few and far between, but you will be notified of
these rare occurrences by the secretary.
Tight Lines,
