Chairperson
I'd like to start by thanking all those present for their
attendance this evening. I can only assume that you all have
similar commitments to myself, and to fit in some spare time is
always a bit of a challenge. It's a shame that we can't persuade
a few more to make a similar gesture. From a club point of
view, I don't think that there's been a quieter year. The year
seemed full of promise with activities for all, but it has
turned out to be a "none event".
My perception might be due, in some regard, to the amount of
fishing I've done this year. Something I wish to rectify in some
way in 2003.
The Newsletter and notification of the AGM, has been a little
late this year. As some of you know, Robbie has been "tied to
his mooring" of late due to illl health. Not all the work should
be placed on one man's shoulders, and I would like to see some
support made available to help with the administration. They say
that "many hands make light work" and I'd like to volunteer my
services in this respect.
The affiliation to the WFSA and the insurance element has
come as a bit of a shock to the members, especially with the
unfortunate timing which made it impossible for the federation
to make any budgetary plans to recover the money this year. It's
not that long ago that the federation was in deep financial
trouble. Through diligence and a great deal of effort by
individuals, that situation is much improved. This 426% increase
in cost is the last thing we need. I fully uphold the option
that every single member should pay an extra one pound (£1) with
their membership renewal. In this way, no one club will be
expected to make a larger contribution than another. The funds
would be attained in the fairest way possible. I hope that those
present this evening will vote accordingly.
I have been gravely disappointed with the inaugural year of
the small boats competition where a collaborative venture
between local clubs, including our own, has failed so
dramatically. This is a point of discussion, as it has been a
very strong element of the club in the past. I know that the
individual anglers still have a strong interest in fishing and
in fishing from small boats, to such an extent, that new boats
have been purchased. So what's the problem ? I am not looking
for blame or apportioning blame in any way. I am highlighting
this as a problem to be resolved for all our benefit.
In the newsletter, we have been notified that Gethyn is
standing down as junior section organised. Thanks go to Mark
Cain for showing "a willing interest" in taking on a strong
section which Gethyn has built up over recent years. I hope that
Gethyn can concentrate his efforts on the small boats festival
which was a great success last year. Building a bigger and
better event on the back of what's already been achieved will be
difficult. I wish him the very best of luck.
Finally, the Marine Nature Reserve is as quiet as ever. They
didn't have the evidence to stop the proposed marina at Gallows
Point, so how they can justify the type of proposed ban on
individuals I don't know. How is tit hey can do nothing about
tons of common shore crab being taken commercially each week yet
pleasure fishing is so damaging? Common sense might prevail,
eventually!

Treasurer
Well, needless to say that the club finances are very good,
mainly thanks to Johnny's hard work over the previous years.
Robbie and I have recently been through the accounts for the
past few years, bringing everything up to date. A detailed
report will be issued for the 2004 AGM. Anyone wanting
further details, please feel free to give me a call.
What is important now is that the club covers it's immediate
outgoings, and do not take from the reserves built up over the
years. Our basic outgoings per year can be detailed as
follows:

Secretary
I’ll keep it short and sweet, just like me (what’s the groaning
about)! Due to a lengthy illness I have not been able active on the secretarial front or come
to that on the fishing front (yes, their was a time when I
managed both). So some of our new members have been lucky enough
to evade my charms (this seems to have carried over into this
year as well).
On the
international scene we faired well once more with Chris Bellion
representing Wales in the Junior Shore team, Bob Muirhead, Colin
Orme Thomas, Wyn Parry at the World Boat team in Belgium and
Alan Reid at the Home Boat team in Ireland.
This year is even better with Chris being ever
present in the Junior team, Gethyn Owen (1st cap),
Wyn Parry and Alan Reid competing in the Home Boat event out of
Weymouth. Also Colin Orme Thomas, Rod Adamson and John Traynor
(1st caps) in the World Boat event out of Ireland. On
the national scene Rod won a major open at Whitby plus being the
top welsh angler at Efsa’s European Cod Championships / Sweden.
Colin taking the Gold medal at EFSA’s Spring open out of Milford
with Roy and Alan winning the Silver and Bronze medals (a clean
sweep)! Later on in the year Alan took Silver at EFSA’s Cod
championships out of Penarth, John Traynor winning Silver and
Wyn Bronze at EFSA’s winter open in the Menai Straits. To round
off John was the top angler in the North and National P.M’s
League – well done to one and all. Not bad for a small club!

Junior Officer
2001 was another very successful year ashore for our younger
rods, not so lucky afloat with our 2 junior boat trips being
cancelled. For our matches we fished the local piers as in the
previous year, with an average turn out of 11 members, from a
healthy 20 strong section. Big congratulations tonight go to
Chris Bellion. Not content with winning our pier league for the
second year running, Chris successfully qualified to represent
Wales at international junior level.
Chris fished at the Home International championships held at
Cardiff last November. The Welsh Juniors came second to a
highly competitive and established English team that included a
current world champion. This however does not give a true
reflection of their achievements. The welsh youngsters missed
out narrowly by 1 fish or had the same amount of fish but the
sizes were a bit smaller. Well done to them all. Hopefully they
can take the Gold crown in Scotland this year.
Joe Crowley, the junior team manager, spoke highly of all the
squad, stating that they were well mannered and a credit to
Wales.
Which leads nicely into a little point I would like to make.
This is regarding the conduct of all our juniors. Too often
these days you hear of vandalism, and lack of respect for
anything or anyone etc, etc. Taking all our juniors out fishing
is a pleasure. All are well behaved, well mannered and eager to
learn through asking questions and listening to what they are
being told. OK they're not saints all the time, sometimes I
could happily muzzle a few just for 10 minutes peace & quiet,
but I truly think it needs to be reported that all are a credit
to their club and especially their parents.
Now to 2002, I need to relinquish one of my posts within the
club. 3 posts for one individual is too much and not what a club
or committee is about. On a personal level I have too much on my
plate, with GO Angling, PM's, and the boat festival, this year
is already turning out to be rather frantic. Next year I will
stand down as junior officer, truth be told I would much prefer
to step down now as I am uncertain of the commitment I can offer
the children.
Whoever takes on the role, will take over a healthy section. 20
keen young rods and £200 in the kitty for the boat trips from
last years raffle money (Last years trip were cancelled). If
anyone would like to take on this officer's role please contact
me ASAP.

Charter Boats Officer
With the vast majority of club members fishing a number of
matches, with Personal Members Fish offs etc... throughout the
year, the interest in general club trips is diminishing.
With this in mind, this year's charter boat trips have been
vastly reduced to just three trips. Please support the
club and book yourself onto one or more of the trips listed
below.

Where do you want to go now?
Small Boats Officer
Last year in
total 11 legs were fished, the first 4 were well attended but
that really dropped of by the end down to 3 to 4 anglers turning
out. As previously reported Mike Hughes won the league. With
the turnout being so low we will have to see if it warrants
organising one for this year (after a brief discussion) it was
felt correct to gauge the support for 5 outings but not under a
league format.
The decision
on which format will be adopted will be made by those present at
the first trip. Meeting point is Kwik’s car park at 10.00
am, the dates are as follows:
August 3rd (28.9ft- this
is also the Holyhead Maritime small boats open),
Aug 17th
(27.9), November 2nd (26.0 ft), Nov 30th
(27.2 ft), December 14th
(27.2ft).
Further details contact Wyn on 01248 712872
between 6 – 9pm.

Fish Recorder
Very
little to report other than Evan Hughes won the Tom Hoban
Memorial Trophy with a Starry Smooth hound of 11.007kg, which is
also a new club record.
